We visited the historic prison site of Trial Bay Gaol in South West Rocks, Australia.
The Gaol opened in 1886, after 13 years of construction & the prisoners were used as laborers to help build a breakwater to make Trial Bay a safe harbour between Sydney and Brisbane. Ultimately that plan failed, but we were able to see the remnants of the breakwater from the guard tower lookout. During World War I the Gaol was turned into an internment camp for people of German descent who were feared to be enemy sympathizers. We explored the site & it was amazing to see the history, the kangaroos on site & the beautiful location & coastline from this vantage point. Very cool historic site that even had a tale of Charlie the ghost that was a tad spooky to read about. ?
