During our farm stay in Roadvale we visited the Moogerah Dam in Boonah. This lake & dam are in the heart of the Scenic Rim. The primary inflow to the Dam is Reynold’s Creek & Bremerton River. Australia is currently suffering from a large drought & one 70 year old local we ran into while hiking told us he hasn’t seen it this low in his entire life here. It is currently holding only 1/3 of what it is meant to hold due to the lack of rain. Despite the drought it is very beautiful & we witnessed many animals & healthy flora & fauna still surviving the drought. As we peered down the dam wall to the waters surface we saw what looked to be small boulders at the base of the dam retention wall but on closer inspection we saw that the boulders were moving & they were actually turtles swimming around & feeding on the algae buildup on the concrete base. The dam was built in 1959 to supply irrigation water to local valley farmers & communities & the local power supply company. The dam wall is 718 feet long & the walk across it was very cool.
