While in Australia last month we made a deviation from our planned itinerary when we were taking a road trip through the east coast of Australia & im so glad we did. We took a trip inland & north west of Sydney into the Blue Mountains & it quickly became one of my new favorite places to visit. It had glorious mind sweeping vista views & big sky & clouds, clean sumptuous mountain air & cooler temps. It was just what we needed to see. We stayed in a beautiful cabin in the Mount Victoria area that allowed us to explore many bushwalk trails right from the cabin, playing monopoly & lighting a wood burning stove to warm ourselves from the cold mountain air in the evenings & we also visited the blue mountains scenic railway park which has the worlds steepest passenger railway at 52 degrees incline. Kids loved it & the views were spectacular. We were told that the view we could see of the blue mountains from our point of standing to the edge of the horizon encompassed just 1% of the blue mountain range. It was incredible to see all the trees in the vast jungle & we were able to take a glass bottomed cablecar as well that spanned one of the gorges near the three sisters rock formations. The blue mountains gained their name for the blue mist that is seen when viewing the expansive ridge lines & we were told that the blue mist is actually fine eucalyptus mist that has evaporated from the millions of eucalyptus trees that populate the blue mountain range. We loved taking the steep passenger train down into the canopy from atop the ridge line & then walking among the elevated walkway down under the canopy of the trees. We also stopped at a park where we had a picnic lunch & wild cockatoos came to have a peak at us or rather our lunch ? We had nothing less than an incredible time exploring this area. So glad we decided to change our plans & venture inland to the mountains.
