One of the last weeks we spent in Malaysia we took a trip into the Genting highlands in Pahang at 4700 ft above sea level which gave us a welcome respite from the humid heat in Kuala Lumpur. We explored the Chinese Taoist Buddhist temple called Chin Swee Cave temple. It was magnificent & beautiful. To reach the twisting switchback mountain road to the temple & Genting highlands we had to drive to the base of the Awana sky chair cable car & then that takes you to the top. It was an overcast day that threatened rain but we are so glad we visited despite the bad weather report. The temples were one stop before you reach the top of the Genting highlands which is a huge entertainment complex bustling at the top of this cool weathered retreat in the mountains of Malaysia. We wandered down the path which started at the happy heart pond & then to the 1st of the chambers of hell where the judgement of your past actions are scrutinized. This path subsequently intensifies to each of the 10 chambers of hell. With each chamber depicting a re-enactment of the recourse of bad actions, thoughts or deeds in the Buddhist Chinese faith…each chamber was specific to the type of infraction (those that insult others, those that take money, all kinds of bad deeds & then which hell chamber you must report to) This artistic representation made quite an impact on the learning of the day & it spurred some great discussions of religion & spirituality.
